FoxNews–They came to fight a Republican-backed voting bill. Now the group of renegade Texas Democrats is fighting COVID-19. At least 6 of the 55 Texas Democrats have tested positive for coronavirus — and so have 2 Washingtonians.

And the White House is wrestling the idea that their lobbying efforts might have created a coronavirus super-spreader event.

The group of state lawmakers flew in to Washington, D.C., last week in order to lobby the Senate for a Democrat-sponsored voting bill that would quash the type of legislation their home-state Republican counterparts are currently trying to push through. Many of them shared the same charter jet – from which they posted a maskless selfie.

CDC Discovers Snakes Can Contract COVID

FoxNews–Two more Texas Democrats have tested positive for coronavirus during their trip to Washington, D.C., just one day after three of their colleagues learned they had contracted the virus as well.

According to the Texas Tribune, the number of COVID-positive Texas state lawmakers in the nation’s capital is now five. The news comes on the same day that Vice President Kamala Harris dropped by Walter Reed Medical Center for a “routine” visit after meeting with the group of lawmakers just last week.

The group of Democrats fled the Lone Star State to deny Republicans in the state legislature a quorum, which refers to the minimum number of lawmakers needed to carry out legislative business.

AOC faults US embargo for Cuba oppression in break with Biden

Yahoo News–Democratic New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Thursday faulted the U.S. embargo for Cuban oppression and unrest as she criticized President Joe Biden for upholding the trade restriction.

She called out “gross violations of civil rights” by the regime, though she slammed the United States, particularly Biden, for upholding the decades-old trade ban, which was designed to destabilize the communist government, after the United Nations called on the U.S. to end the embargo for the 29th year.

“We are seeing Cubans rise and protest for their rights like never before,” Ocasio-Cortez said in a statement. “We stand in solidarity with them, and we condemn anti-democratic actions led by President Diaz-Canel. The suppression of the media, speech, and protest are all gross violations of civil rights.”

CBS2-CHICAGO–CBS 2 has dug into Chicago’s contract with ShotSpotter – a high-tech gunshot detection system that can alert police of potential gunfire in seconds.

With accusations that it doesn’t work, and that it targets certain communities, attorneys with the MacArthur Justice Center at Northwestern University on Monday filed paperwork asking a Cook County judge to examine how trustworthy the system is for court cases.

The Chicago Police Department is the company’s largest client, and the city’s $33 million contract is due for renewal this summer. CBS 2 Investigator Megan Hickey is asking, is it worth the price?
